Concord, NH – Tom Brady may not play for the New England Patriots anymore but New Hampshire sports fans’ confidence in his ability to lead his team to a championship has followed him south to Florida. The New Hampshire Lottery estimates 59-percent of New Hampshire Super Bowl sports wagers as of this past weekend, have been placed on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—despite the rest of the country overwhelmingly betting the Kansas City Chiefs. Nationally, about 78-percent of players are betting on the Chiefs. New Hampshire Lottery estimates about 66-percent of total dollars wagered for the Super Bowl in New Hampshire has been on the Buccaneers.
“It hurts to not have the Patriots in the playoffs this year, but it is a pretty nice consolation prize for our players and sports fans to have the GOAT, Tom Brady, playing in yet another Super Bowl, even if it is for a different team,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery. “It is not surprising New Hampshire sports bettors have come out in full force to bet the Buccaneers, as we have seen players betting Tampa Bay throughout the season and that activity has increased as the season has progressed. Good luck to all our players and Tom Brady this weekend!”
New Hampshire players have been picking Tampa Bay ever since Brady joined the team. Players can bet on the eventual Super Bowl winner before the season starts, right up until the game participants are determined. Known as “futures,” the New Hampshire Lottery took about $331,000 in futures bets this year relative to the Super Bowl, with about $84,000 in bets on Tampa Bay, which equates to about 25-percent of Super Bowl futures bets, the most of any team.
Some of the most popular Tampa Bay Super Bowl bets by New Hampshire players include betting Tom Brady to win the Super Bowl MVP award, picking Rob Gronkowski to score the first Super Bowl touchdown and that Brady will throw at least three touchdown passes.
