Hannaford Supermarkets is using a $24,000 commission from the New Hampshire Lottery to make a major impact on veterans in the Manchester area. The New Hampshire Lottery presented Hannaford with a $24,000 commission today for selling a $2.4 million jackpot winning Tri-State Megabucks ticket for the drawing on Saturday, June 22. Founded in 2004, Liberty House helps homeless and struggling veterans by connecting them to available resources and by providing a safe, substance-free transitional house.
The Hannaford Supermarket on John Devine Drive in Manchester sold a $2.4 million jackpot winning Tri-State Megabucks ticket for the drawing on Saturday, June 22. The New Hampshire Lottery presented Hannaford with its $24,000 commission today during a special event at Liberty House in Manchester.
“We are so honored to be able to work with the dedicated folks at the Liberty House,” said Lisa Lessard, store manager at Hannaford—John Devine. “Every day they are providing opportunities for self-sufficiency and comfort to our veterans—and that is a gift that stretches beyond those individuals, it helps strengthen our community at-large.”
Hannaford made the presentation to Liberty House in its living room, which features a veterans-themed mural with the names of the more than 300 veterans who have passed through Liberty House. Lisa Lessard, store manager of the Hannaford Supermarket on John Devine Drive, presented the donation to Jeff Nelson, executive director of Liberty House. Liberty House will use the funding to create a recreation and resource center offering positive social activities and resources, such as access to computers.
“The New Hampshire Lottery commends Hannaford Supermarkets for making this contribution in support of such an important cause,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director, New Hampshire Lottery. “It is incredibly humbling to see one of our loyal retailers choose to do so much good in New Hampshire. We are proud and gratified to be a part of this initiative.”
Hannaford Supermarkets has long been committed to supporting New Hampshire’s nonprofit community, and this is not the first time Hannaford has leveraged its New Hampshire Lottery commission from selling a winning ticket to make an impact on those in need.
In 2016 after selling a $487 million Powerball winning ticket at the Hannaford in Raymond, Hannaford donated its $75,000 commission, plus an additional $25,000, to a series of nonprofits fighting hunger in the Raymond area. In 2017, Hannaford donated its $10,000 commission from selling a $1 million winning Powerball ticket at the Hannaford in Hampton, plus an additional $5,000, to three food pantries in Hampton.
“We are extremely grateful for this support from Hannaford, which will have a tremendous impact on the individuals we serve here at Liberty House,” said Jeff Nelson, executive director, Liberty House. “This generous donation will allow us to expand opportunities for positive social experiences for our veterans, which is critically important. We cannot thank Hannaford enough.”
No winner has come forward to claim the $2.4 million Tri-State Megabucks prize. The winner will ultimately have the choice of taking the cash option jackpot payment, which is half the advertised annuitized jackpot amount of $2.4 million or taking graduated annuity payments over the next 30 years.
The winning numbers for the drawing on Saturday, June 22, were 19-28-32-34-37 MegaBall 2. The lucky winner matched all five numbers and the MegaBall.
Tri-State Megabucks, which has been on sale since 1985, is sold in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays.
