The New Hampshire Lottery is announcing a $168 million Mega Millions ticket sold at Brookside Market & Deli, 51 Hampton Road in Exeter, NH. This is New Hampshire’s first Mega Millions jackpot winner since the New Hampshire Lottery joined the game in 2010. The winner has the option of taking the one-time cash payout prize of $108.8 million (before taxes) or taking the annuity payment of an estimated $168 million (before taxes) over 30 years.
The Mega Millions drawing results from last night (July 23) were: 1-4-23-40-45 MB-11. “New Hampshire is lucky again as somebody woke up a multimillionaire today! We have been waiting patiently for our first Mega Millions jackpot winner and now that we finally have a winner, the excitement is off the charts,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director, New Hampshire Lottery. “We cannot wait to meet our big winner. Congratulations to the Brookside Market & Deli for selling the winning ticket.”
The Brookside Market & Deli will receive $75,000 for selling the winning ticket. While New Hampshire has sold 11 Powerball jackpot winning tickets, this is New Hampshire’s first Mega Millions winner. This Mega Millions jackpot had been growing since it was won on June 7, 2019 in California.
McIntyre, who has administered hundreds of millions of dollars in winning prizes during his career, offered several tips for the winner’s consideration:
- The ticket is a bearer instrument and the New Hampshire Lottery pays whoever “bears” the ticket.
- Talk to a lawyer—an attorney can provide strategic guidance.
- Meet with a financial professional—someone experienced working with large sums of money.
- Plan first; then claim your prize. There is no need to rush—the winner has a full year from the draw date on that ticket to claim the prize. Think about what you want to do with the money.
This Mega Millions winner marks New Hampshire’s third jackpot winner of more than $100 million since 2016. In March 2018, a lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed a $559.7 million Powerball jackpot winning ticket purchased at Reed’s Ferry Market in Merrimack. In September 2016, another lucky player, who also chose to remain anonymous, claimed a $487 million Powerball jackpot winning ticket purchased at Hannaford Supermarket in Raymond.
